Overview

This programme is designed to provide participants with functional knowledge and skills in Graphic Design, Audio-Visual Production, Social Media and Web Applications and Digital Marketing. The technical skills taught in this programme will prepare participants for 21st century job opportunities.

Several studies have shown that digital entrepreneurship can strongly contribute to reducing poverty and improving livelihoods.

Digital and creative entrepreneurship makes entrepreneurship more inclusive. Under-represented population groups in entrepreneurship could be more likely to benefit from certain features of digital technologies for business creation and growth, including the lower start-up costs required for many digital businesses and the wider access to external markets offered by the internet.

In St. Lucia there is a significant need to expand the reach of our services and products. Digital content creation and distribution can support a bottom-up approach that does not rely heavily on government intervention, and that can evolve as platforms, services and industry grow.

Objectives

This programme seeks to;

  • Create Professional Projects using Graphic Design Software.
  • Apply appropriate tools and techniques to create an industry standard audio-visual production.
  • Use social media platforms effectively to develop brand awareness.
  • Use content management systems to develop attractive websites and web applications.
  • Apply effective digital marketing strategies to promote services and products.

Entry Requirements

The ideal candidate for this programme should possess the following;

  • Strong language skills;
  • Access to a laptop or computer;
  • Access to internet services;
  • Knowledge of and the ability to utilize, basic graphic design software;
  • Knowledge of and the ability to utilize, basic video editing software;
  • Certificate in Digital Literacy for Professionals. (Must be attended for six weeks and completed prior to beginning Digital and Creative.)

Programme Summary

  • Graphic Design

    This module will explore the process and concepts associated with digital imaging fromPro conceptualization to output. Learners will apply sound principles of design and composition as they engage in the use of open-source software to create digital images for a range of purposes – web, television, print, fabric.

    Learning outcomes will include;

    1. Explain the Fundamentals of Computer Graphics;
    2. Explain the structure of digital images, pixel, greyscale and colour images;
    3. Describe the Digital Composition of Images/Photographs and Graphics;
    4. Create Professional Projects using Graphic Design Software.
    5. Design graphics for practical mediums;
    6. Employ the steps involved in creating industry standard image outputs.
  • Audio-Visual Production

    This module covers aspects of digital audio video production for multimedia development. It provides in-depth understanding of theory as well as a practical approach to audio video production in the digital environment.

    Learning outcomes will include;

    1. Describe the tools and techniques applied in audio-production;
    2. Apply audio recording tools and techniques to create effective audio productions;
    3. Describe the tools and techniques applied in video production;
    4. Apply video capture tools and techniques to produce effective video content;
    5. Plan an audio-visual production from pre-production to distribution phase;
    6. Apply appropriate tools and techniques to create an industry standard audio-visual production.
  • Social Media and Web Applications

    This module seeks to empower you with the practical skills necessary for today’s digital economy. The module is specifically designed to address competency in Digital literacy and Data skills that have become essential for the job markets of today and the future. You will acquire the essential practical competencies and skills that will equip you to effectively use social media and the world wide web for personal and professional activities.

    Learning outcomes will include;

    1. Discuss the benefits associated with using social media tools effectively;
    2. Describe the risks associated with using social media;
    3. Configure current social media platforms based on usage categories;
    4. Apply practical steps for protecting privacy on social media;
    5. Create content for social media platforms;
    6. Explore the use of CMS in the development of websites and other web applications;
    7. Describe the practice of Digital Citizenship through web and social media technologies.
  • Digital Marketing

    This module is designed to give learners an understanding of how to effectively incorporate digital marketing strategies into traditional marketing plans. Learners will get an understanding of the different tools, marketing channels and platforms involved in digital marketing. This course is suitable for anyone who wishes to reposition their product and services online.

    Learning outcomes will include;

    1. Discuss the role of digital marketing;
    2. Differentiate between traditional and digital marketing;
    3. Develop a digital marketing plan;
    4. Apply the various digital marketing strategies to real life situations;
    5. Incorporate the different marketing tools into a digital marketing plan.
